This photo was taken on April 21, 2017, back before Deezelmuscle was even open to the public.
Whenever Charles Poliquin was in Arizona, he’d train at DM and host his legendary North American Mass & Power Boot Camps here. I had the privilege of being one of his athletes during those camps, and because I owned the gym, Charles always insisted I be part of them.
What makes this day even more memorable is that it happened to be the same day Deezelmuscle hosted the Arizona Special Olympics Powerlifting Competition.
I was the head judge for the powerlifting event, and our entire crew of volunteers was made up of Deezelmuscle members. Watching our community come together to serve something bigger than ourselves is a memory I’ll never forget.
Charles didn’t just teach that day—he gave back. Without hesitation, he donated $1,000 to support the Special Olympics. That gesture spoke volumes about the kind of man he was.
Charles passed away the following year, but his impact on the strength world is still felt today. I’m grateful I had the opportunity to learn from him, train alongside him, and call him a friend.
Some memories become part of your gym’s history.
This is one of mine.
👊🏻 Rest in peace, Charles

I never knew this about Platz did you guys?
Tom Platz once looked back at his early success and financial mistake from 1979. As a rookie professional bodybuilder, he earned $40,000, which was a huge achievement at the time. He was then offered half of Gold’s Gym for just $20,000. Instead of investing, he bought a Corvette sports car. The decision felt rewarding in the moment, but it did not grow his future wealth. Over time, Gold’s Gym became a massive global brand, while the car lost value quickly. Tom later admitted that this was one of his biggest financial regrets. He realized that early opportunities can define long-term success. As Tom Platz said, experience taught him that wealth comes from smart decisions, not flashy purchases.
