First Light on Pigeon Peak
I’ve been having too much fun playing with a lot of the panoramas I’ve captured over the past couple years. Unfortunately Instagram is a terrible medium for sharing these ultra-wide, high definition shot, but oh well… I’m gonna do it anyway.
Almost a year ago to the date I went on a backpacking trip into the Weminuche Wilderness with .k.klein and my husband Eric. Our main mission was to summit the infamous Turret & Pigeon Peaks that we had spent plenty of time photographing from afar over the past 5 years.
Over the course of a couple days we made our way into the remote basin at their base and made the plan to summit Turret before sunrise to see what we could see! With a nice alpine start we made our way to the top with plenty of time to spare. Unfortunately there wasn’t a cloud in the sky that morning to catch any of the awesome light, but this meant that summiting Pigeon later that day was definitely a go!
With no clouds to focus my attention, I couldn’t resist trying to get a big sweeping panorama of all the Needles from this 13,816ft peak that lies smack-dab in the middle of the Weminuche. After we were happy with our shots we headed back down to the saddle and wrapped around to climb the much more challenging Pigeon Peak (13,934ft) seen on the left of the shot. With such excellent conditions we spent a good amount of time up there just soaking in the views. (5th Slide)
