Join us this Friday, July 3rd for the opening reception of π©ππ & π©ππ featuring modernist works by Robert C. Ellis (1923-1979) and Robert M. Ellis (1922-2014)
Mirrored by their names and juxtaposed by their paths, when paired together these two artists symbolize how influential each small decision in our life can become in shaping such dramatically different styles of self-expression.
This exhibition is created in partnership with the Robert M. Ellis Art Collection Trust, with partial proceeds of all R.M. Ellis sales donated to the University of New Mexico , and the Estate of Robert C. Ellis.

Final day of ππ©π’π―π€π¦: ππ’π³π΄π©π’ ππ¬πͺπ―π―π¦π³
Thank you so much for such a sweet turn out of support for this special exhibition. It has been a joy to learn more of Marshaβs character (especially her persona in the work place, from her time at the Mable Dodge Luhan house to volunteering at the Questa Library), which would not have been possible without the community members who took the time to visit with Marsha once more.
Her legacy serves as a glowing example of what the artists of Taos are capable of, and the powerfully unique forms of knowledge each of these Taos characters seem to bring to this land.
We are lucky to share space with all whom we do. Here on Tiwa Land. Thank you

Upcoming Exhibition: Bob & Bob
Opening Reception: 5-7 PM | Friday, July 3
Exhibition Dates: July 3 - August 15, 2026
203 FINE ART is pleased to answer an age-old question: what is the difference between Robert Ellis and Robert Ellis? Besides a middle initial distinguishing the two artists (Robert C. Ellis and Robert M. Ellis), these two legendary modernist painters have consistently overlapped. From their use of the GI Bill after WWII, their time at the University of New Mexico, to choosing the small town of Taos as home and building international artistic careers that crossed the same borders, both Bobs have long deserved to have their individual stories shared.
Though both Robert M. and Robert C. were greatly inspired by the country of Mexico, where each lived and studied for a time, their respective bodies of work exemplify distinct differences. Robert M. Ellisβ academic path as a professor at the University of New Mexico as well as his directorship of the Harwood Museum created a perceivable change in his style, as he became more figurative and direct. Robert C. Ellis, solely an artist, instead fell further into abstract surrealism, with the spiritual world ever present in his pastel drawings and oil paintings. However, whether ironically or not, by the end of each of their careers, they had found a home in minimalism.
This exhibition serves to share the lifelong importance of two powerful artists and patrons. It is created in partnership with the Robert M. Ellis Collection Trust and the Estate of Robert C. Ellis.
