Every breakthrough starts with someone bold enough to imagine what's possible.
After surviving cancer himself and losing friends to the disease, Florida legislator H. Lee Moffitt was determined to create the world-class cancer center he believed the state deserved.
He championed legislation to create Moffitt Cancer Center, funded through the Florida's cigarette tax. It was the first free-standing cancer center in the nation established through this unique funding model.
That bold investment laid the foundation for four decades of innovation, discovery and compassionate care. Today, we continue to build on H. Lee Moffitt's vision as we work to contribute to the prevention and cure of cancer.
As we celebrate 40 years of hope, we're looking back at the people and milestones that shaped Moffitt's story—and continue to inspire what's next. 💙
