Yesterday, we had the privilege of celebrating someone whose generosity has quietly touched countless lives over the past three decades.

For more than 30 years, Linda Richards, owner of The Cake Shop Bakery, has donated sweet treats each week for the Tallahassee Memorial Cancer Center tea cart. As volunteers make their rounds through the infusion center, offering tea, snacks and a friendly smile to patients during treatment, Linda's baked goods provide something just as important: a moment of thoughtful care, a special treat, a joyful distraction and perhaps even the comforting nostalgia of a cupcake during a particularly difficult time.

Yesterday, colleagues and volunteers gathered to thank Linda for the impact she has made on patients and families over the years. After viewing the plaque honoring The Cake Shop in the Cancer Center Healing Garden, Linda toured the Cancer Center and saw firsthand where the patients she has cared for from afar receive treatment.

In true Linda fashion, even while being honored, she spent much of the visit thanking the nurses and volunteers for the work they do every day.

When asked why she has continued this weekly tradition for so many years, her answer was simple: "It means everything that I can bring just a little smidgen of joy to somebody."

At the TMH Foundation, we're continually inspired by the generosity of our community. Whether it's a financial gift, volunteer service or sharing a special talent, every act of kindness makes a world of difference to someone who needs it. Yesterday was one of those days that reminded us just how fortunate we are to know people like Linda.

For many children living with Type 1 diabetes, some of the childhood experiences others take for granted are anything but simple. Even something as familiar as summer camp can bring anxiety and uncertainty for families, making it feel just out of reach.

But thanks to generous supporters of Tee Off for Tots and The Proctor Endowment for Children with Diabetes, Florida Diabetes Camp makes the summer camp experience not only possible, but truly unforgettable.

🏕️At this camp, diabetes doesn’t make kids feel different or keep them on the sidelines. Instead, campers spend their days swimming, laughing, learning and making lifelong friends — all while receiving expert care and encouragement from physicians, nurses, diabetes educators and dedicated volunteers, including many familiar faces from the TMH care team they already know and trust. That continuity provides an added sense of comfort and reassurance for both children and their families. Along the way, campers gain confidence and develop the skills needed to better manage their Type 1 diabetes.

And for parents, there’s something just as meaningful: peace of mind. Knowing their child is safe, supported and surrounded by people who truly understand Type 1 diabetes allows families to simply enjoy watching their kids just be kids.

That’s one of the many reasons support for the Tee Off for Tots Golf Tournament matters.

Proceeds from Tee Off for Tots help support Florida Diabetes Camp and provide scholarships for local children to experience the confidence, independence and sense of belonging camp provides. Because every child deserves a summer camp experience filled with adventure, friendship and memories that last a lifetime.
