The US Black Heritage Project database at WikiTree is at 232,949 family profiles this week. Less than 18,000 to go to meet our 2023 goal of 250k!

This week I created 336 new Black heritage profiles during the WikiTree WikiGames, connected two people to their biological family and cleaned up some messy genealogy. Messy genealogy commonly happens when someone has the name of their ancestor, and when they go to research that person, they don't really look at the documents to see if they pertain to their ancestor or just some random person with the same name. This is how many people end up with wrong ancestors in their trees.

If I could beg one thing from everyone this week, it would be to please check the sources you use to prove the relationships in each generation in your tree. Because people copy from other people's trees. And if your tree is wrong, their tree is going to be wrong and so on. (and if you are going to copy from someone else's tree, check those sources first! Someone born in Alabama isn't going to have a California birth record.)
