Welcome to the first edition of The Weekly Pacific Northwest Justice Journal.
The inaugural main story focuses on next week’s primary election for sheriff of Pierce County, the top cop for Washington’s second most populous county and one of the largest police forces in the northwest. About a month ago, I went to the only public forum so far for the race and had one of the best burgers of my life. And, oh yeah, I learned what they told a friendly crowd about policing.

New this afternoon: Video shared with The News Tribune shows two Fircrest officers forcing a former Curtis basketball standout onto her stomach and one resting his knee on her neck as she cried and complained she couldn’t breathe.
