This summer, Gabriella Vasquez ’27 attended the UN Climate Change Conference (SB64) in Bonn, Germany, where she got a firsthand look at international climate negotiations and connected with leaders working on climate policy.

Through her internship with Balance Eco, Gabriella explored climate action, biodiversity, and community impact, experiences that connect directly to her senior thesis on climate justice and global policy.

She is also interning with Chief Judge Maurice B. Foley of the U.S. Tax Court, continuing to explore the connections between environmental policy, law, and public service.

Roman Shemakov ’20 has been named a Knight-Hennessy Scholar at Stanford University, where he will pursue an M.B.A. as part of the program’s global leadership community. The prestigious fellowship supports 87 scholars from 31 countries and marks the first time a Swarthmore graduate has received the honor since 2018.

A history and economics major, Shemakov has applied questions first explored in Swarthmore classrooms to work spanning Taiwan, Beijing, and Kyiv, where he has advised Ukraine’s minister of economy and contributed to major reconstruction efforts.
