🔥 It's officially the kind of hot where stepping outside feels like opening the oven to check on the biscuits.

A few reminders while Mother Nature tries to turn Brunswick County into a crockpot:
🥤 Drink plenty of water (coffee and sweet tea don't count... sorry).🌳 Take breaks in the shade or air conditioning.🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, not even for a minute.🐾 If the pavement is too hot for your hand, it's too hot for your pet's paws.🚒 Check on elderly neighbors and anyone who may need a little extra help.
If you see one of our deputies looking extra shiny, that's not a new uniform feature... that's just 100% North Carolina humidity.

With these extreme temperatures, don't let the heat catch you off guard.

💧 Drink plenty of water, even if you don't feel thirsty.
🧢 Wear light-colored, lightweight clothing.
🌳 Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
🚗 Never leave children or pets in a parked vehicle, not even for a minute.
🐾 Make sure your four-legged family members have plenty of fresh water and a cool place to rest.
⚠️ Know the signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, and don't hesitate to call 911 in an emergency.

If you're working or playing outside, pace yourself. The heat isn't trying to win a race... but it might.
