Postpartum Partnership
08/27/2022
A mom will text her twenty-year-old child, letting him know it's going to rain and not to forget an umbrella.
She calls to see how the first day of school separation went for her grandkids and if her daughter made it to the car before tears streamed down her face.
She watches her daughter's baby, so she can shower and take care of her postpartum body.
She texts her forty-year-old son, making sure he’s home safe from a wedding because knowing that is still the only way she can sleep well.
She buys her thirty-four-year-old daughter Wetzel’s Pretzels when she goes to the mall because she knows how much her daughter loves them.
And no, she no longer needs to do these things,
but she does them anyway.
Because a mother always wants to make life easier for her kids when she can
even when they’re capable, responsible humans and can do all the things for themselves.
And she always wants to know they’re safe.
Because mothering doesn’t stop when her kids turn eighteen, move far away, or have their own kids.
It just changes.

Dear Men,
Remember how beautiful, smooth, and sculpted her body was at the beginning of your marriage.
She is still the same beautiful woman with the same spirit that you have always loved.
The difference is that she gave your children life.
The price for that was the loss of the body she once had.
Do not complain about your wife because her fat increased and do not think that she likes it!
A mother's affection makes her turn a blind eye to all of that and her only concern is her children and your happiness.
Remember that this tummy was once the warm home that hugged your children for 9 months with all their pain, fatigue, and weight, to seal them until childbirth.
A thousand hearts to all the Mothers ❤️

Mom,
I never understood why you seemed grouchy on some days 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized how bone-tired you were and underappreciated you felt.
I never understood why it took so long for you to get ready 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized you were too busy doing everything to get 𝘶𝘴 ready, and you came last.
I never understood why you would say give me five minutes when I wanted to play 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and just wanted a second to breathe in-between tasks.
I never understood why you would lose it over the smallest things 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized it was a buildup of frustration, anxiety, and stress that had you snapping and not the spilled cheerios all over the floor.
I never understood why you got mad at me when I got out of bed every ten minutes on loop because I wasn't tired 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized how many things you needed to get done while we were sleeping.
I never understood why you were always worried 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized it's because your love for me was so strong the idea of anything bad happening hurt your soul.
I never understood why you hugged me extra tight some days 𝘶𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘭 𝘐 𝘣𝘦𝘤𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢 𝘮𝘰𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 and realized the world is hard, and I was your reminder that everything was worth it.
Entering motherhood has given me a changed perspective on everything, including you.
And becoming a mother made me
love you more.
