First light

he wanted sunrise in the backyard

where he spent so much of his childhood

in the spaces that built him

on the back steps

the path to the basketball court

under the shade trees

where first day of school pics were taken

where friends were dropped off

where all the best memories lead back to.

I gave her a string of pearls to keep her little hands busy... then I blinked and she became this confident, stunning young woman having senior pictures.
