Days for Girls Sun Prairie WI Chapter

UPDATE: These kits are being shipped this week to Tanzania & Haiti!!!

This week our team put together another 311 menstrual kits - that is over 3700 sewn parts put together by about 45 volunteers in our Sun Prairie team working on their own in their own homes. Our team leader, Linda Frautschy, organizes the different parts getting to the right person on the steps to make the final parts. Then every few months, a group of 20-25 people meet to put the parts together into finished kits to be shipped to where needed. Since our group began in May of 2019, we’ve made over 1000 kits, most of them during the pandemic. The last picture is with 270 lbs of kits loaded up for another volunteer to drive them to the shipping point, (costing $200 but saving us $77 in shipping costs with his personal UPS discount).

Our Sun Prairie team has been working on our Days for Girls menstrual kits all throughout the pandemic, each of us doing our part of the project in our own homes. This week we delivered 300 completed kits to Liberty, Missouri, for its first leg of the journey to the country of Chad to help with the Chad Humanitarian Project. Chad is in the middle of simultaneous and overlapping conflicts and insecurity, resulting in large numbers of refugees, internally displaced persons, and Chad returnees. At present, Chad hosts over 470,000 refugees from Sudan, the Central African Republic and Nigeria, as well as 330,000 internally displaced persons, mostly around the Lake Chad region whose experiences have been compounded by COVID-19.

In partnership with Watoto Read and the Jesuit Refugee Service, Days for Girls Chapters and Teams are stepping up to meet the urgent need of 21,000 refugees.

A local Sun Prairie pastor, Pastor Tim Hansen of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, drove the 7 hours to deliver them to Liberty, Missouri, to save us postage.
