Suamico Fire Department

This week, Suamico Fire Department Driver/Operators sharpened their skills with hands-on training in nursing operations using our recently refurbished tenders and Engine 1211. After reviewing setup and operation of the new tender pumps, crews put their training into action by simulating two highway vehicle fire scenarios - efficiently supplying Engine 1211 with water while maintaining safe traffic control. Together, our apparatus delivered an impressive 5,400 gallons of water within minutes of dispatch, reinforcing our readiness to respond when it matters most.

Suamico, WI — The Suamico Fire Department responded to Sensiba Wildlife Refuge near the Bay of Green Bay for a reported dog in distress on the ice. Upon arrival, crews confirmed that a 3-year-old golden retriever named Mitsy had fallen through the ice approximately 100 feet from shore and was unable to get out.

The Suamico Fire Department deployed its Ice Water Rescue Team, utilizing specialized equipment and training to safely reach the animal. Firefighters were able to successfully rescue Mitsy from the icy water and bring her back to shore.

Once on land, Mitsy was evaluated by EMS personnel and found to be in stable condition. She was then safely reunited with her owner.

We would also like to extend our appreciation to the Brown County Sheriff's Office and the Brown County Public Safety Communications for their assistance and coordination during this incident.
