We are as excited as this guy is for National Orca Month!
There is no better way to celebrate than with some Fintastic Orca fun facts!
- Orcas otherwise known as Killer Whales are not actually whales at all, in fact they are dolphins! 🐬
- Individual orcas are identifiable by their dorsal fins, their saddle patches behind them, and any visible scars.
- Orcas live in every ocean in the world. 🌏🌍🌎
- Orcas live in pods (families). They are the only known non-human animal to have evolved based on culture - they have distinctive calls and whistles, different forms of hunting based on location/unique pods.
- Each have their own unique dialect and learned behaviours thats passed from one pod generation to the other – a unique feature that is currently known to exist with one other species; humans. 🧍♂️🧍🧍♀️
