🏫 Option 2:
If we want to keep property taxes under control, Connecticut needs to fully fund ECS and provide more support for special education excess costs. This year, we essentially saw a one-year funding commitment, but towns need long-term certainty.
The good news is that we can prioritize education aid without growing government spending.
Some areas worth looking at include:
-Reduction in and increased oversight of state earmarks
-Reduce the number of special-interest tax breaks
-Limiting state borrowing and future debt costs
Education funding is one of the biggest drivers of local budgets. By focusing state resources on core responsibilities and helping towns cover education costs, we can reduce pressure on local property taxpayers.
