But then what happens?

The majority of a photovoltaic panel is recyclable; over 80 percent of the panel is made from glass and aluminum. Companies throughout the United States are working diligently to meet the demand for PV material recycling, scaling up capabilities and facilities to meet the recycling demands as solar arrays mature.

Components of solar projects that are not recyclable can be placed in landfills, since they are considered non-hazardous.
