There's a take going around: “FedRAMP 20x removed the sponsor requirement, so it's easy now. Accelerators are dead.”

That mixes up two different problems.

The sponsor requirement was a waiting problem; you needed someone with a badge to say yes. 20x fixed that.

But it never touched the building problem: the hardened infrastructure, the IAM, the logging, the monitoring stack, the evidence pipeline you need to actually be secure.

That's still on you to build, whether or not anyone has to sponsor you.

And under 20x, you have to prove it continuously: 46 KSIs, 10 families, all the time, with a live review pipeline behind it.

The gate got shorter, but the house didn't get smaller.

Permanent admin rights don't have to be exploited to be dangerous; they just have to exist.

Every credential that never expires is one phishing email away from being weaponized, turning valid credentials into a weapon.

Just-in-time access flips this: privileges granted per task, scoped to the minimum, expiring automatically. You can't steal access that no longer exists.
