Probably the best advice I was ever given as an artist was to photograph everything you do. I’ve gone back to these old pieces so many times. As you learn and become more proficient, it obviously happens gradually. You don’t always see how you’ve progressed and honed your skills. Here is the first piece I did on black paper and a more recent one. The difference, when seen next to each other, shocked me. Now to be honest, I’m not trying to get to photo realism, but I am trying to interpret a piece in a realistic manner while still showing evidence of the process used. Or in other words, being able to see the “hand of the artist” in the work. All of that aside, the bottom line, take pictures of your work
