Ernie Reed began working at Braden & Van Fossen in 1962, just a month before his 15th birthday. He followed in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. He worked with our company for over 61 years, until he was no longer able. Ernie was a skilled welder. He was dedicated to his craft and an incredibly loyal and reliable co-worker. His strong work ethic was admirable. He was always willing to tackle any job and do whatever was needed to get it right. He has skillfully crafted many of the iron railings and fencing seen throughout Staunton and Augusta County. Over the years, he was part of the development of the entire self storage business and worked to help maintain our property and buildings. He was one of a kind and is truly irreplaceable. We are so saddened at his passing and will miss him tremendously. We cannot begin to express how much he has meant to our company and our family. He has become a cherished member of the Van Fossen family. In many ways, Ernie was the constant link to our family history and we will miss hearing his stories about our grandfather (Louie Van Fossen) and all of their antics over the years. Our thoughts and prayers are with Ernie’s family and especially his son, Ben.
