Memorial Day 2026 Honor our heroes by learning their stories and remembering their lives. Memorial Day began as a somber day of remembrance; a day when Americans went to cemeteries and placed flags or flowers on the graves of our war dead.

Next Generation 911 (NG911) is no longer just a future concept—it is actively reshaping how states deliver emergency communications, and Kansas is a great example of that transition. The Kansas Legislative Research Department’s “Briefing Book 2026: Next Generation 911” explains how NG911 replaces legacy analog 911 infrastructure with a digital, IP-based system that can carry voice, text, photos, and video, all supported by robust GIS data for more accurate caller location. The briefing also highlights the role of the Kansas State 911 Board and the state’s early decision to opt into FirstNet, laying the groundwork for a more resilient, data-rich 911 system for residents and first responders. We see this kind of statewide planning—governance, GIS investment, and coordination with broadband and FirstNet partners—as essential building blocks for successful NG911 implementations across the country.
