Missouri Professional Communicators (MPC) will present a panel of working communicators in its next program, “Mixed Messages: Uplifting Diversity in Communications,” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026. Participants will be:
• Alvin A. Reid, editor of the “St. Louis American,” which has been a voice in St. Louis’s African-American community since 1928
• Roxie Mullins, editor of “Faces” magazine, a publication by Metro Trans Umbrella Group
• Terry Bates, director of marketing and communications for the International Institute of St. Louis
• Jacqueline Duty — a Chilean-American author, editor and media executive — will be the panel’s moderator.
There are two ways to attend this free program. The public may email MPC at [email protected] to reserve a seat at the St. Louis Artists’ Guild (12 N. Jackson Ave., Clayton, Mo.) or receive a link to view the program via Zoom. Reservations are required by Jan. 30.

One of our panelists will be Terry Bates, director of marketing and communications for the International Institute of St. Louis. From media relations to digital content and event storytelling, Terry works to help St. Louis better understand—and better welcome—the people who strengthen our region every day. With more than 20 years of experience in marketing and communications roles, Terry brings deep expertise in mission-driven strategy, storytelling, and community engagement, with a strong emphasis on the nonprofit sector. Their work focuses on building clear, values-based messaging, strengthening brand consistency, and creating communications that mobilize partners, supporters, and stakeholders around measurable impact. Missouri Professional Communicators (MPC) will present a panel of working communicators in its next program, “Mixed Messages: Uplifting Diversity in Communications,” at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026. Alvin Reid, "St. Louis American" editor, is one of the panelists. Alvin is one of only a few area journalists to win major awards in print, broadcasting and radio. He is a weekly panelist on the popular local television show “Donnybrook” on Nine-PBS, and “Next Up.” Named "Best Sports Columnist" in the weekly newspaper category for five times by the Missouri Press Association, Alvin also is co-author of the book Whitey’s Boys: A Celebration of the 1982 World Champion St. Louis Cardinals.
