Missouri Appleseed

From public defender to nonprofit founder, Liza Weiss has dedicated her career to strengthening families working as an attorney with the Neighborhood Defender Service of Harlem, the Committee for Public Counsel Services, and the Children’s Law Center in Washington, DC. Inspired by the impact of other Appleseed centers, Liza founded Missouri Appleseed in late 2017. Under her leadership, Missouri Appleseed spearheaded projects that have changed lives across the state.

None of Missouri Appleseed’s successes would be possible without Liza’s vision and signature tenacity.

After her departure from the organization in 2025, the organization decided to honor her ongoing legacy by establishing a quasi-endowment fund in her name. This fund will ensure her incredible legacy and work aren’t impeded by a funding environment that experiences substantial flux and will make sure her name is always an indelible part of Missouri Appleseed.
