Such a great time of prayer and conversation tonight! Would you please join us in praying for the people we encountered tonight?
* For L, who asked for prayer for her mother’s health.
* For D1, who asked some good questions tonight. He is wrestling with how to deal with those that call themselves Christians but do not live according to Scripture. Please pray that he would put his faith in God, and not in man, but please also pray that he would come in contact with believers that will genuinely support one another in their pursuit to be more like Jesus.
* For A, who is praying that things work out in the next couple of weeks regarding a place to stay.
* For D2, who is having back surgery next month. D2 also asked for prayer for his wife and their home.
* For Q, who requested prayer for peace and prosperity.
* For N, who asked for prayer for her family as they go through some struggles.
* For D3, who has stress pain in his jaw.

We continued our study of Joseph in Genesis chapters 40 and 41 today at Hillside.

Joseph, who was imprisoned on a false accusation, interpreted Pharaoh’s cupbearer’s dream for him and told him that he would soon be restored to his position.

Joseph then had one request: that the cupbearer, once restored, would tell Pharaoh about Joseph, so that Joseph might also get out of prison. The cupbearer got out of prison and was restored to his position, but he forgot about Joseph. For two years!

What if Joseph had gotten his wish? What if the cupbearer had told Pharaoh about Joseph right away? Pharaoh would likely have let Joseph out of prison, and Joseph would have left Egypt and gone back to the promised land, but to an uncertain future. A short-term victory for Joseph, no doubt.

But then Joseph would never have been in position to later interpret Pharaoh’s dream to warn him about and plan for the coming world-wide famine. Both the Israelites and Egyptians would have starved, and Joseph would not have been in a position to extend mercy and forgiveness to his brothers and to reunite with them and their father. They would have completely missed the much bigger blessings.

When God doesn’t seem to answer our prayers in the way or time we think He should, maybe that’s a good thing.

From 6:30 to 8:00 p.m., we will be available to talk and pray with anyone in the community, and if needed, we will direct them to area resources for needs they might have. Please pray that people in the community will be led to stop and talk/pray with us, and that they would be blessed by an encounter with the love of Jesus.

Ever feel stuck in a cycle of bad luck? This morning at Hillside, we studied Joseph, who seemingly had all kinds of bad luck. However, as we learned in Genesis 37 and 39, God is able to use the strangest of "circumstances" to orchestrate truly miraculous outcomes of provision and restoration. In the weeks ahead, we will go further in Genesis and study more of Joseph's story--a story that only God could write.
