Steve Feamster grew up in Detroit as a kid who just could not leave anything alone. Smuggling lumber from the neighbors' construction sites, rigging a boat prop onto a w**d whacker, taking a sledgehammer to VCRs just to figure out how to put them back together. He and his friends once pieced together something they thought could float them down the canal and ended up getting towed back in. He tells it like it was the best day of his life.

When Shep asked him to take it back to the beginning, Steve put it simply: "I was making it work with what I had and enjoying doing it."

That was the moment Emme Hughes chose the fab shop over the race track. She started EH Metal Works at 18, and her years racing sprint cars actually laid the groundwork for it. TIG welding a cracked cage on the fly is a skill that translates. When the business started taking shape, she hung up the helmet and picked up the torch full time. Now she runs a one-stop fab shop for anything metal.

This week we sat down with Emme Hughes, 23-year-old owner of EH Metalworks out of Enid, Oklahoma. She started with a plasma cutter at 18 and now runs a 10,000 sq ft full-service fab shop. But the conversation went way beyond metal.
