Creative Designs/Creative Solutions: Parish mergers are becoming an increasingly common occurrence, and one element of a merger that is easy to take for granted are the paraments that will be used by the new congregation. Of course, any paraments will be suitable for worship, but there is a way to honor the history of both parishes as well as their joint future. When approached by the pastor of a newly merged church about their paraments, I asked her to send me pieces of the green paraments that had been used by the separate churches and I incorporated pieces of both textiles in a brand new design. The resulting design is a visual tribute to their shared histories and joint future.
