SLUCare Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

Our expertise as a practice is a reflection of the patients we care for and the community we serve. As an academic practice in a level 1 trauma center, we treat many patients with severe facial trauma.
This patient had a severely depressed midface fracture. The fracture was reduced by opening incisions in the lower eyelid, under the lip, and at the brow. It was secured with titanium plates and screws to restore the cheek projection.

Facial paralysis is one of the most difficult issues to treat in facial plastic surgery. At SLUCare, we work closely with head and neck surgeons to help rehabilitate patients with facial paralysis. This resilient patient had a malignant parotid tumor which damaged his left facial nerve. As a result, he had no muscular tone and poor eyelid position. This was improved with a facial sling using tissue from the thigh, and the eyelid position was corrected to allow eye closure and more symmetrical appearance.
