Happy International Jazz Day and throwback to an unforgettable concert two weeks ago with the & .
Closed out my guest conducting season with works by Duke Ellington and Terence Blanchard, and now we’re in St. Louis gearing up for the festival season. This year, I’ll be conducting “A Streetcar Named Desire” by the late André Previn - another musical inspiration, who combined jazz and classical music in his work. The deeper I dive into this score, the more I’m drawn into the expressive and rich musical language he crafted to tell this timeless story. Can’t wait to start rehearsals with our fantastic cast and the great & .
If you’re in St. Louis, join us for the performances in June!

Toronto, thank you for the warm welcome! 🍁
Looking forward to our next 5 shows with this wonderful cast and orchestra!
“Last evening marked the COC debut of Serbian conductor Daniela Candillari, who led the orchestra in a high energy, well-paced performance. From the first downbeat of the overture, we knew we were in for an exciting evening. There’s a lightness of touch in her conducting that is ideal in Rossini, capturing the spirit of the work perfectly. I hope the COC will bring Maestra Candillari back in future seasons.” -
“Conductor Daniela Candillari elicits a sprightly, cheerful sound from the COC orchestra. Sections of recitative underscored solely by harpsichord, for instance, tick along like a carousel.” -
“Conductor Daniela Candillari produced a well judged and brisk performance that served the singers well. […] It was tight, crisp and never dull and singers and orchestra responded admirably.” -
“Conducted by Daniela Candillari in her COC debut, the COC Orchestra played brilliantly and gave us a stunning rendition of one of the most recognized overtures in the canon. Her tempi throughout the piece were lively without getting out of control.” -
