Jason Eckert and Elly du Pre spent the day with Lisa Stella and the team at the Lighthouse for the Blind of the Palm Beaches. After an amazing facility tour, they visited a unique vocational training program - that provides career opportunities for youth in the transition program - in partnership with Extraordinary Charities' Recipes for Success initiative. Jason and Elly also visited the First Tee golf program at the Lighthouse.

Vision rehabilitation services and training provide a crucial path to meaningful employment for adults living with blindness and low vision. Although VisionServe Alliance's Big Data Project Working-Age Adult national report confirms that a significant percentage of these adults are working, many are underemployed and earning wages far below those of their sighted peers. Lower income reduces their quality of life, with negative impact across all social determinants of health - reduced education and access to healthcare, resulting in a higher rate of chronic health conditions, and nearly double the rates of depression.

Our member agencies provide vital training and employment services. Many have also established manufacturing facilities to employ highly-trained adults with vision loss. Check our list of members to obtain local support: https://visionservealliance.org/list-of-members/
