THE baby blanket is complete! ✨ the first project completed at our new home in Brooklyn, the last project completed from Little Cliff in St. Louis.
48 hours of hand darning over nearly 2 years (thank you again to my client for their patience and trust). This piece made me realize there was so much more to learn about textile preservation, and I wrote about it for my grad school application!
I’m curious to see how my perspective will change on this piece as I go through school. What would I do differently, what questions would I ask if I could do it over again? But right now, really happy to complete this chapter 🧵🪡

A few months ago I had trouble sleeping and had a wild idea to test staples rusting on fabric, both as a source of color and a way to create resist patterns. It took a few months to get the formula right but I’m really happy with the results. I tore up the test swatches and started creating Manx quilt blocks from them, and indigo fragments I’ve hoarded. It felt right to add charms to the hearth squares at the center: all items found in the bottoms of antique button tins, from sewists long past.
I don’t know what this will be in the end but I’m loving the journey 💙🧡
