Most people think deficiencies are just about what you eat… but it’s deeper than that.

Your body runs on molecules it either makes or gets from your diet. Some—like cholesterol—are so critical your body produces most of them on its own.

But here’s where it gets interesting 👇

🔬 Production isn’t the same for everyone
Genetics and aging can reduce how efficiently your body makes what it needs.

⚡ Depletion is constantly happening
Stress, injury, and illness can burn through your reserves faster than you can replace them.

So now ask yourself:
If two people face the same stress, but one produces less to begin with… who becomes deficient first?

👉 Exactly.

Over time, that gap can get so large that diet alone isn’t enough to catch up. The volume of food required becomes unrealistic—and meanwhile, your body is still using these nutrients every single day.

And it doesn’t stop there…

When one pathway struggles, it can create:
• Downstream deficiencies
• Metabolic bottlenecks
• Build-up of unwanted byproducts

This is why we test.

We’re not guessing—we’re evaluating how your body is actually functioning, where it’s inefficient, and where support is needed.

Yes, lifestyle and diet matter (a lot)…
But sometimes you need a bigger lever.

That’s where targeted supplementation comes in.

💡 It’s not about taking more.
It’s about taking what your body actually needs.

What is The Root Health Project all about?

👉 Being proactive with your health.

Most people know diet and exercise matter…
But here’s the real question:

Where are you starting from?

If you were using a map, you’d never reach your destination without knowing your current location.
Your health works the same way.

That’s why I focus on objective data — your biomarkers.

These numbers tell the real story:
• Where your body is functioning now
• Where inefficiencies exist
• How to create a plan that actually works

Because here’s the truth 👇

If your system is already running at 70% capacity…
Pushing harder with more workouts or stricter dieting can actually:
⚠️ Increase stress on your body
⚠️ Accelerate aging
⚠️ Move you closer to disease — not further away

And the crazy part?
You might still feel fine.

Your body adapts so well that “fine” can become your normal… even when you’re far from optimal.

We’ve been taught that aging = less energy, slower recovery, and lower performance.

But is that really aging…
Or is it loss of reserve capacity from years of stress, poor inputs, and unseen imbalances?

The current medical model often waits until:
❌ Numbers are far off
❌ Symptoms are obvious
❌ Disease is present

At that point, you’re managing problems — not optimizing health.

The Root Health Project flips that model.

✔️ Identify issues early
✔️ Optimize cellular function
✔️ Keep your body operating at its highest capacity
✔️ Stay OUT of the disease state

Someone you know right now is heading toward a health issue…
…and has no idea.

Don’t wait.

haven’t posted in a while because I’ve been working on a couple of big projects I’m really excited about… more on that very soon.

But here’s the big news 👇

It just became way easier for you to get your bloodwork done.

My custom blood panels are now available through my Fullscript dispensary.

Click the link in the Bio to access my dispensary 👉

If you’ve been following my BIOMARKER breakdowns and thinking, “I should probably get these checked”… this is your sign.

Here’s how it works:
• Purchase your lab panel
• Schedule your appointment at a local Quest lab
• Bring your lab order with you
• I receive your results and build a custom report

You’ll get clear, actionable steps to improve the cellular pathways connected to your biomarkers — not just numbers on a page.

If you don’t know where to start, the Basic Biomarker Panel is the perfect entry point.

It’s time to change the trajectory of your health — and the health of those you care about.

Let’s get to the Root!

IRON STATUS: THE LABS THAT MATTER 🩸⚙️

If you want a true picture of your iron status, you need context, not just one marker.

Key labs to assess iron properly:

🔴 Total Serum Iron
Optimal: 85–130 µg/dL

🔴 Ferritin (iron storage)
Optimal: 60–100 ng/mL

🔴 Transferrin Saturation
Optimal: 30–40%

🔴 Total Iron Binding Capacity (TIBC)
Optimal: 300–360 µg/dL

👉 These are often bundled together in a single iron panel.

❌ Absolute Iron Deficiency

(Not enough iron in the body)

• Low ferritin
• Low serum iron
• Low transferrin saturation
• Normal or high TIBC

➡️ Typically treated with iron supplementation.

❌ Functional Iron Deficiency

(Iron is present but unavailable)

• Normal or high ferritin
• Low serum iron
• Low transferrin saturation
• Low or normal TIBC

⚠️ Often associated with elevated hs-CRP (inflammation).
Iron is trapped and can’t be used effectively.

🚨 This is primarily an inflammatory issue.
Supplementing iron before addressing inflammation can worsen oxidative stress.

Why this matters

Lab values don’t exist in isolation.
You can have “normal” labs and still feel awful.

➡️ Being slightly off (sub-optimal) doesn’t just add up —
it multiplies dysfunction.

Understanding how these systems interact is the key to optimizing iron so your mitochondria can actually produce energy.

Functional iron deficiency requires a more strategic, multi-pathway approach.

Know your labs. Context changes everything.

⚠️ Signs of Low Iron

• Brain fog
• Headaches
• Lightheadedness
• Increased anxiety or irritability
• Heart palpitations / arrhythmias
• Fatigue
• Shortness of breath
• Exercise intolerance
• Cold hands and feet
• Restless legs
• Brittle nails & hair loss

🔴 The common denominator?
All of these symptoms are tied to low cellular energy.

Your brain and heart are two of the most energy-demanding organs in the body.

❌ IRON DEFICIENCY IS A MITOCHONDRIAL ENERGY CRISIS FIRST.

By the time anemia shows up on labs, mitochondria have often been underpowered for months—or years.

✅ Why iron matters at the cellular level:

• Iron is required for the electron transport chain
Low iron → broken electron flow → ↓ ATP (energy)

• Iron deficiency shifts cells into survival metabolism
↑ Lactate and worsened NAD⁺ / NADH balance

• Iron is required for mitochondrial biogenesis
Low iron accelerates functional decline with aging

• Iron deficiency increases oxidative stress
More membrane damage + higher inflammatory signaling

❌ The vicious loop:

Low iron → mitochondrial dysfunction
Mitochondrial dysfunction → ↑ ROS & inflammation
Inflammation → ↑ hepcidin
Hepcidin blocks iron absorption & traps iron in macrophages

➡️ Mitochondria are starved even when total body iron looks “normal.”

🔴 This creates FUNCTIONAL IRON DEFICIENCY —
one of the most under-recognized drivers of chronic fatigue and disease progression.

⚠️ About 1 in 3 people has some form of iron deficiency

In women of child-bearing age, the number is likely even higher.

Key iron biomarkers to look at:
🔴 Serum Iron – low circulating iron
🔴 Ferritin – depleted iron storage
🔴 TIBC – often reflects late-stage deficiency, liver stress, or chronic inflammation impairing iron transport

❌ Who’s most at risk?
• Women of reproductive age
• Endurance athletes
• GI disorders or poor absorption
• Older adults
• Chronic inflammatory states
• Low-protein or restrictive diets

📉 As iron levels fall, disease risk rises:
• 20–40% ↑ risk of heart failure
• 30–60% ↑ risk of cognitive decline
• 40–60% ↑ immune dysfunction & infections
• 30–50% ↓ aerobic capacity
• 20–30% ↑ all-cause mortality

⚠️ You can be deficient, symptomatic, and at risk
long before anemia appears on labs.

🔍 Iron thresholds often missed:
❌ Ferritin
