2025 FILEY .... ¡Feria Internacional de la Lectura en Yucatán!

What an impressive book culture here in Yucatán… one great sign of a healthy society. Stands were filled with youth. . . halls were filled with families. Day in and day out, the parking lot was packed full. The spirit of the event was energizing—people crowded in to watch cultural performances, explore the bookstands, and soak in the atmosphere.

Besides that, the academic conference of UC-Mexicanistas was a joy, filled with impressive panels, magnificent authors and insightful presentations. I left with tons of new books that I’m looking forward to reading and teaching. One of the highlights was reconnecting with remarkable Mexican scholars and hearing about their latest passions and projects.

Lastly, thank you for the opportunity to share and its upcoming translation into Spanish (2025, Bonilla Artigas), with an ever larger audience. FILEY 2025 will fill me with energy for a while … and dates are now out for 2026: 14-22 March. Already looking forward to it.

Here are some fun shots from this weekend’s MLA in New Orleans, where SERIAL MEXICO picked up an award in the category of Best Book on Spain or Latin America (MLA’s Katherine Singer Kovacs Prize), caught up with fab friends /colleagues, attended great panels on a variety of topics and presented my work on Televisa/VIX’s telenovela Diana Salazar (1988 / 2024).
