The Independent Living movement grew out of the American struggle for civil rights. Since the first Illinois CIL opened in 1980, we’ve been fighting for the right to participate fully and equally in society. 📜

Did you know? INCIL member centers are run by and for people with disabilities. At least 51% of staff and Board of Directors at every CIL are individuals with disabilities, ensuring our work is rooted in lived experience.

Navigating the jump from high school to college or the workforce? CILs offer transition support services to help young adults with disabilities plan their future and advocate for their own terms. 🎓
