Proverbs 25:28, "Whoever has no rule over his own spirit Is like a city broken down, without walls."
Observation: 1. People have a spirit, saved and unsaved alike, we are created body, soul, and spirit. 2. 'Rule over' has to include these aspects: discerning between what is the human spirit and a demonic spirit, and the Holy Spirit; self awareness mainly of weaknesses and tendencies toward self-deception; self discipline, the internal mechanism which facilitates life change, emotional regulation, mental stability, and internal peace. #3. "A city broken down, without walls," indicating a personal life of dysfunction, disrepair, disarmed, and defenselessness, unable to keep out predators, unable to even know what should be allowed in or kept out.
Self-control cannot be overstated. It takes time to develop. There will be pain involved. Self-discipline is painful. Lazy is easy. Broken is easy. Living in denial is easier than facing shame. Face it anyway.
Control yourself.
A Friday morning quote from one of our BLLC classes!
d. Principles of Humility
1) Humility before God and man is a sign of mature character.
a) Leadership is dangerous and abusive unless humility
guides it.
2) Humility is recognizing your own limitations and God’s
ability to compensate for them.
a) It is bowing down before God on a continual basis,
acknowledging His supremacy over all creation, His
sovereign ability to intervene in all circumstances, and His
authority to rule without rival over us.
3) Humility can be seen in a person’s response to correction.
a) Is correction received or……? (Proverbs 9:8)
b) How do they respond when they are told 'no'?
4) Humility can be seen in being quick to repent when wrong.
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our
sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:9
The most productive, life-changing, and hardest Bible study that anyone can do is the inductive method.
Basically, there are three 'steps'.
Observation, or what does it say
Interpretation, what does that mean
Application, how can I apply that to my life (with the intention of becoming more like Christ, or as a part of my personal discipleship, which should be the same thing)
Most of the hard work is done in that first step. The hardest part of it is to allow the text to simply say what it says, without the framework of an interpretative view that gives the meaning beforehand. These frameworks go by several different names, but the point is this. In order to determine what any passage is saying, those frameworks must be put aside.
There are several rules that should be adopted in Bible study by any serious student. Grammar, sentence structure, word meanings, historical grammatical, and contextual consistency.
The next hardest part is to adjust your preconceived intrepretive conclusions . Everybody goes into a Bible study with preconceived ideas of what it says and what it means. But when you actually do read the words, and possibly/probably realize that your preconceived conclusions were incorrect, then you must adjust your mind to what the Bible actually says. In other words you have to change.
And that ain't easy.
The idea of personal discipline (that is, controlling yourself, your mind, will, and emotions) and daily crucifixion of the flesh are indispensable tools.

Ok, people, this is now gonna be your challenge. Put down all, ALL, other books, booklets, devos, newspapers, articles, blogs, all reading materials
EXCEPT
The Bible, and stuff you have to read for work or if you are already in a class, no other ‘spiritual’ reading, or so called spiritual authors, through the end of the year.
That’s 4 short months.
Bible only, as much as humanly possible.
How Christians Can Unknowingly Have Unbiblical (or Occultic) Beliefs. Yes, it's possible. Let me tell you how this happens.👉My Website: https://www.melissadougherty.co/💡Want to Know More About New Thought? Order Happy Lies: ●...
