The Salvation Army Springfield IL & Sangamon County
We're in the last week of our sermon series, "To My Friend Who Left the Faith." Today, we focused on John 1: 14-18,32-38.
How can a good God allow so much suffering?
It's one of the hardest questions people ask—not in classrooms, but in hospital rooms, at gravesides, and during sleepless nights when life falls apart.
This week we finished our series, To My Friend Who Left the Faith, by looking at the Christian response to suffering. Not a neat explanation. Not a philosophical argument. A person.
John tells us, "The Word became flesh." God didn't stay at a safe distance while the world hurt. He stepped into our pain. He knew hunger, grief, betrayal, exhaustion, and death. He stood at Lazarus' tomb and wept—not because He didn't know the ending, but because the pain of the people He loved mattered to Him.
Whatever you're carrying today, God is not fine while you're not fine. He came down here. He knows what this feels like. He is with you in it.
The story is not over.
