Sparkles turn for a case of the zoomers!

04/27/2026

Surprised by the timing, because most births are usually early morning & over for the day by 10am. But around 3, I noticed Dancer had curled up in the birthing stall & seemed to be having contractions. Things stalled out between 4 & 5 & I was making calls to my Vet, Dr. Simonis & OSU for emergency services. Only the legs were coming out. I called my friend Shelby Owens & she came up for moral support. It ended up being more than that because as I was making phone calls to set up help, Shelby tried looking closely at those legs & she could see a tongue. So on the next contraction, she pulled legs & out popped the calf. There was much barking by the dogs as Shelby ran down to the house yelling my name & “Live Birth!!!” I only heard dogs barking & we both ran back up to the barn to see the calf. Dancer did all the right things & Mom & baby are doing well. It was great not having to transport Dancer to OSU, or have my Vet give up her Sunday.

Spent the day closing part of the back field off. Sometimes when we have a wind storm & a tree goes down on the fence, it takes a bit to get someone here to chop it off the fence. This pen will be the safety boundary to keep the reindeer from wandering.
