In Mark 10:13-16, parents are bringing their children to Jesus to be blessed. But the disciples scolded them. Because the lack of societal regard for children during this time, the disciples assumed Jesus had more important things to do.

But this isn’t how Jesus treated the children. Jesus loves the children so much he wants all of us to approach him like a child. He wants us to be full of curiosity and questions, learning about him, and just wanting to be close to him. This is what it means to have a child-like faith and why Jesus gave great attention to the children brought to him.

We long for others to get better, pray for our spouse to get better. It’s always easy to see other’s issues. But can we see our own? We have to be humble enough to look at the other and say we’re the problem.

When we make the marriage vow, we also make the vow to God to hold fast to each other. So it’s not just looking at each other but looking to God and being honest that we’re the issue.

Our troubles start with a hard heart. But there’s hope with God that our hearts can soften. The hope of the gospel is that we can change when God gets involved. But we have to ask ourselves, “do I want to get better?”
