Hsien-Tse Chen is a Visiting Scholar from Tainan National University of the Arts in Taiwan. He is one of two Visiting Scholars working in the Art + Design Department at MSU this spring semester. On Tuesday, March 28, Chien-Tse presented a ceramics workshop to Professor Keith Ekstam’s Art 312 Ceramics II class where he shared his methods for making hand-built functional vessel forms. The workshop was well received by the Art 312 students as they were introduced to various technical and philosophical ideas regarding the artist’s work. Hsien-Tse achieves a good deal of thinness in this work which lends to its delicate, organic nature.
