Cody, "What is a bond?" A lot of people hear the word bond and immediately think of bail bonds. Different thing entirely.

A business bond is basically a financial guarantee that says, "This person will do what they said they were going to do."

The easiest way to think about it is this: Insurance protects you. A bond protects the person you're working for. Many contractors, electricians, plumbers, and other professionals are required to carry bonds before they can get licensed or take on certain jobs.

Let's say a contractor takes a deposit and doesn't complete the work. A bond may help protect the customer from that loss.

A bond is not the same as insurance. If a bond company pays a claim, the bonded person is generally expected to repay that money. So while insurance is designed to protect you from a loss, a bond is designed to create trust.
