I love this prayer penned by Dr. George O. Wood in his devotional thoughts about Psalm 125 (verse 1: "Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion, which cannot be shaken but endures forever.")
GOW told the tragic story of Horatio Stafford, who wrote the words to "It Is Well With My Soul" after the loss of his 4 daughters when a ship sank in the ocean.
The prayer: Lord Jesus, I find it easier to say, "It is well with my soul" when peace like a river attendeth my way than when sorrows like sea billows roll. May I not be a fair-weather friend of Yours. Thank You for stabilizing me when I am shaken and surrounding me when I am defenseless. Help me to go on doing good while I trust You that You always work for my good.
Amen.
Lord Jesus, as I grow older, I have a choice between:
Counting my bruises or counting my blessings,
Trusting You or testing You,
Grousing or giving thanks,
Regretting my "if onlys" or rejoicing in how You provided.
Keep my mind and heart clear of clutter and confusion so I never forget who You are, what You have done for me, and the bright promise of all that yet lies ahead.
(I read this prayer this morning from a devotional book - "A Psalm In Your Heart," written by George O. Wood, former AG Gen Supt. This powerful prayer concluded GOW's writing about Psalm 71.)
