Reducing weight stigma in healthcare benefits is all.
Giving patients informed consent and letting patients decide what treatments and procedure they endure is the heart of ethical care.
We will continue to fight and train healthcare providers to reduce harm.

What does your staff say when a patient refuses to be weighed?

You need to have this talk with your staff before they start weighing patients.

A patient has the right to refuse being weighed just like any other medical procedure.

If you didn’t know this or need help with learning how to reduce weight-stigma, please take our course at www.weightinclusivecaretraining.com

Only in Michigan!
Body size is not a protected class and thus does not have the federal or state protections. Until we have this, it is up to health care providers to reduce harm and stigma through their own education.

Link in my bio for more information about the course we created to learn how to do better.

You’re allowed to say no to the scale. Here’s exactly how to do it, five phrases that work whether you’re talking to a front desk assistant or holding firm with the doctor.

Save this for your next appointment. 🤍

PS- you will never be weighed or judged for your body size or shape in my office. 😉

I had such a meaningful conversation with Dr. Cristina Castagnini on the Cristina Castagnini about weight stigma, GLP-1s, and the eating disorders healthcare so often misses or even praises in larger bodied patients.

We started with my own story, my atypical anorexia and orthorexia during chiropractic school, and how that experience is actually what led me to build a weight neutral practice.

From there we got into the real harm of BMI based medical denial, where patients are refused surgeries and procedures they need based on a number that says very little about their actual health.

We also talked honestly about GLP-1 medications, including the sarcopenia risk that rarely gets mentioned before someone starts one, and why informed consent matters so much here.

If you are a provider rethinking how you talk to patients about weight, or you are someone who has felt dismissed in a doctor’s office because of your body size, this episode is for you.

Episode 290 is live now. Link in bio to listen to the full conversation.
