The National Fire Protection Association reports that heating equipment is a leading cause of home fire deaths. Fire departments responded to an estimated average of 40,997 fires involving heating equipment per year from 2018 to 2022, accounting for 12% of all reported home fires during this time. These fires resulted in annual losses of 470 civilian deaths.
Stay warm, stay safe.
When the temperatures drop, the risk of house fires rises, and it’s no coincidence. Winter brings increased use of heating equipment like space heaters, fireplaces, and wood stoves, which are responsible for over 25% of house fires during the season. And with more time spent indoors cooking hearty meals, kitchen fires can become a serious concern too.
Quick Tips to Stay Safe:
✔️ Keep anything that can burn at least 3 feet away from heat sources.
✔️ Never leave space heaters or candles unattended.
✔️ Make sure your smoke alarms are working (seriously, go check them now).
✔️ Have a fire extinguisher handy—just in case.
If the unexpected happens, our team’s got your back with expert fire damage restoration services. Stay safe and keep the home fires burning in the right way this winter.
