Recognizing Mark Morris of the Springfield Police Department.

This week marks the observance of National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, a time to recognize Dispatchers for their dedication, professionalism, and unwavering commitment to public safety. Over the past year, the Vermont Emergency Dispatch Association has worked diligently to grow as an organization that supports Dispatchers across the state. Throughout this week, we are proud to highlight several Dispatchers from departments across Vermont who have been nominated by their colleagues for recognition.

Mark has dedicated over 25 years to serving as a dispatcher. During his tenure, he has played a key role in managing the transition of CAD systems within his agency and has spent much of his career serving as their TAC Officer. He has also acted as the department’s Vermont compliance liaison, ensuring that state and federal audits are completed and that standards are consistently met. Mark regularly takes on additional responsibilities, including supporting IT maintenance and other critical operational needs. However, beyond his many roles, it is his impact on the profession that truly sets him apart. In his nomination, a colleague shared that Mark has helped elevate the profession of Dispatchers and Telecommunications as a whole. He actively networks with surrounding dispatch centers, fostering strong and positive working relationships. Within the Springfield Dispatch Center, he contributes significantly to training and development, mentoring colleagues and helping them grow in their careers. Mark is also known for responding off-duty during times of crisis to support his team. His deep, commanding voice ensures clear and effective communication in even the most challenging situations. His experience and foresight allow him to anticipate needs and ensure resources are in place, making operations more efficient and effective. Beyond these many accomplishments, it is the positive intangibles Mark brings each day that truly distinguish him as an exceptional and deserving dispatcher.
