This guy? Oh his name is gus. He is our newest project we are helping Great Plains Mastiff Rescue with. His is almost 6. His original owners had health issues and had to let go of him. When GPMR called us they said "no behavioral issues but man he is alot and out of control." They were correct! This guy makes Chris have a good workout! We will be working this boy for his next home and getting him not only more obedient but help him have a better understanding of life.
AND YES! HE DROOLS!!! This big guy can be adopted through great Plains mastiffs.
Oh Fritz ! You will be missed. You came in a scared, still somewhat recovering from being hit by a car, growling at us, scared of kids, busting through kennels and thresholds, a little rough with the other pups and look at you now! Mom and dad have tons of acres, a loving home, and a whole new attitude and mindset on you to work with. We even got that bad habit of trying to Bite peoples legs when they move quickly past you or dance. So thrilled to have had the trust of your parents to take you on. We are driving 2 hours to take you home today and spending a few hours with mom and dad to make sure they understand how to control your quirky ass.
Why? Why work a dog in a kennel. Because we work the dog on what they struggle with. Fritz is a dog doing some rehabilitation in alot of ways. When Fritz turned up hit by a car the emergency vet clinic here in springfield was able to patch him up. He showed some promise on temperament, but clearly was undersocialized and had some stranger danger. Approaching fritz means getting some growl and in the kennel he is very unsure of humans. So in this 10 min working session in a kennel we begin doing different approaches, touches, and working behaviors. Out of the kennel Fritz is very eager to do these behaviors, but in the kennel you can tell with tail, ears and avoidance that it's not something he is comfortable with. Through this counter conditioning we will see a more eager dog when we approach or enter kennels.
