4 Common mistakes people make when choosing stock photography:

People in images have exaggerated emotions: This reads as insincere and unbelievable.
Images are overlaid with words: This is a problem for two reasons. 1) The words cannot be read by screen readers, which is a problem for those using assistive technology or translators. 2) Using words on an image on your website
Images feel too staged. Like before, this reads as insincere and unbelievable.
Uniforms in the photo are different from your actual business’s uniforms. This can give website visitors a feeling of incongruence / distrust.

I was an accidental business owner.

When I started my business almost 3 years ago, I was struggling with a recent diagnosis of a disability that was making it impossible to work full time hours. When I had flareups, I was stuck in bed for hours or days at a time.

I remember thinking at that time that I could apply for disability, become an Instacart shopper, or maybe…I could fulfill my lifelong goal of becoming a web designer!

I had spent my career in public schools and public libraries, but I have dabbled in web development since my middle school days.

My initial goal was to build a few websites while I got my health under control so that I could have a portfolio and begin applying for marketing agency jobs.

Almost 3 years later, my health is much better and I just finished building my 35th website.

I love working with so many varied businesses, and the flexibility that being an entrepreneur has given me has been wonderful for my family.
