Walked through a snowstorm on Tuesday to get to Camp 1, the first camp after base camp, at 16,495 feet above sea level.
Mark and I got our tent set up and unpacked. Feeling fantastic.
Camp 1 is called "Plaza Canada."
We leave Wednesday morning for Camp 2 called “Nido de Cóndores” which means “condor nest.”.
I can’t send photos while above base camp – only text-based messages. I'll upload photos when we get back down.

I have some crazy pics from an amazing weekend.
I’ve been doing much better since Saturday. I took an extra rest day while the group carried water up to the next camp.
Sunday was a good test of my health and stamina. We did an acclimation climb, up to a summit called Cerro Bonete and then back down. This helped prepare our bodies for the higher elevations we’ll soon face. I was fighting a little headache after getting back to camp. But I’m told that normal after a rapid descent. Overall, feeling much better.
The prayers are working. And I’m so appreciative of everyone’s prayers, love, and support. It’s honestly amazing!
Monday was another rest day in Plaza de Mulas, so it was a relaxing day. Then it gets real. We start the push for the Aconcagua summit.
We’re currently at 14,300 feet in elevation. Tuesday we move to “Camp 1” at around 16,500 feet. Then Wednesday we travel to “Camp 2” at roughly 18,400 feet, followed by an additional rest day. Then Friday we move to “Camp 3” at 19,500 feet – this is higher than Kilimanjaro and will be a new personal best!
Then on Saturday, Jan. 15th, we will push for the summit of Aconcagua at 22,841 feet. It’s a long, eight- to ten-hour climb to the top. Ugh…. Then four hours back down to Camp 3 where we will stay for the night one last time. It’s a long day with unbelievable physical demands. Then we drop from Camp 3 back to Plaza de Mulas where we are now. So it’s a crazy five days starting Tuesday.
All prayers are appreciated – especially as we get higher and higher. I feel like I’m ready. Nowhere to go but up!
