Youth access alcohol either from social or retail sources. Social access is when youth get alcohol at a party, from their parents, a sibling, or a friend. Retail access is when youth purchase or take alcohol from a store, restaurant, or bar. Retail access also includes youth ordering alcohol to be delivered or shipped to their home. How do we help parents and guardians make the right choice not to provide alcohol? The APRC has a new resource on Parental Provision of Alcohol. https://bit.ly/ParentProvision

Law enforcement offers a unique and valuable perspective on substance use prevention. Because prevention coalitions strategize from multiple angles, they can bring broader perspectives to evidence-based strategies to address issues before they become law enforcement problems. Coalition membership fosters positive collaboration within a community to prevent youth substance use, benefiting law enforcement and the community. The APRC has created an infographic highlighting the benefits of law enforcement/coalition engagement. https://www.prevention.org/Resources/54d33c16-b3b5-4712-b8ad-3ef259b3c992/Law%20Enforcement%20%20Coalition%20Engagement%20FINAL.pdf

Festivals and community events are vital to a town’s culture. They can help communities and businesses by bringing people together to celebrate and make memories. Businesses, non-profits, and other organizations that host events rely heavily on alcohol sales. Events with alcohol can increase the risk of underage drinking, violence, impaired driving, and vandalism. Use the APRC Special Events Toolkit to ensure your event is safe for everyone involved. The toolkit can be downloaded as a whole resource, or you can download and customize the appendices. https://www.prevention.org/alcohol-policy-resource-center/tools-and-resources/special-events-toolkit/
