Animals & Pain

Animals are amazing at masking their pain. However this doesn’t mean they are not in agony. At times when animals appears unbothered they are still often enduring severe discomfort. Animals have a functional nervous systems (nociception) identical to humans. This means an animals physical sensation of pain is real even if you dont hear them whimper, cry, or see them limp. Dogs can even wag their tail seeming to be happy when they are actually pushing through the pain to appear to be normal. This is all from the prey and predator instinct. Animals that appear hurt get targeted by predators or ostracized by their herds. Although some animals have domestic their instinctual conditioning still continues to be carried. If you notice your animal is hurt or they are not acting like themselves it is still VERY important to take them to the vet.
