🚨 THIS IS WHY YOU SPAY YOUR PETS. 🚨
Today was a big reminder of why we are so passionate about spaying.
Today alone, we performed emergency surgery on one dog and one cat with severe pyometras. Both infections were so advanced that, without surgery today, they may not have survived.
💔 What is a pyometra?
A pyometra is a life-threatening infection of the uterus that occurs in unspayed female dogs and cats. After a heat cycle, bacteria can enter the uterus, causing it to fill with pus. As the infection worsens, toxins spread throughout the body, leading to sepsis, organ failure, and, if left untreated, death.
Many people think this only happens to older pets, but pyometra can develop after a female's very first heat cycle.
Emergency pyometra surgery is much more complicated, much riskier, and significantly more expensive than a routine spay.
✅ Spaying your pet while they are healthy is one of the best ways to prevent this painful and deadly disease. It's safer, less expensive, and could save your pet's life.
Don't wait until it's an emergency.

⚠️ FERAL CAT NOTICE ⚠️
Main Street Spay & Neuter will NOT be accepting feral cats the week of June 15th–19th.
On Tuesday, we will be hosting our Big Fix event, where we will be spaying and neutering 100 owned cats, and our schedule is already extremely full throughout the rest of the week.
Please know that we do not make this decision lightly. We understand how important feral cat services are to our community, and we have always done our best to accommodate feral cats whenever possible. In fact, we have never turned away a feral cat brought in appropriately in a trap. However, next week we know our limits, and accepting additional feral cats is simply not something we can safely accommodate while maintaining the quality of care our patients deserve.
We appreciate your understanding and support as we work through this exceptionally busy week.
🐾 We will still be accepting feral cats this Wednesday 6/10.
🐾 Feral cat intake will resume beginning June 22nd.
Thank you for helping us make a difference for community cats and for respecting the needs of our team during this busy time.
