Why choose a Fresh 48 session?

If I could give a new mama any advice it would be to book a fresh 48 session. Looking back on my own personal experience, although giving birth is tiring, I feel like I was in the best position mentally to have her “newborn” photos taken at the hospital.

These photos fully capture all of the most precious little details that are so special to get to have forever. It takes me right back to this moment of first meeting her and falling completely in love with her.

Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love in home newborn sessions as well, but in the midst of navigating breast feeding, while also being sleep deprived and just figuring out this whole new life, having an in home session would’ve just felt very overwhelming to me.

Every mama will be different but this is just my advice from my own personal experience 🫶🏽✨

✨Ru’s Birth Story✨

Almost 5 months later and here I am getting around to posting our birth story of our beautiful baby girl, Ru Everlee Posten.

First and foremost the one thing I prayed every single day during my pregnancy was for a joyful birth, no matter what that looked like.

Scroll to the end of my pregnancy where at 39 weeks I developed gestational hypertension. If I learned anything during this pregnancy it’s that there is A LOT of things I’m not in control of, lol. For someone who is used to putting in the work and seeing the results this was something that was so frustrating to me😂

On the evening of 4/20/2023 as my blood pressure continued to climb Dr. Haynes decided it would be best for me to go get monitored at triage. Thanks to we knew that it would be smart to go ahead to shower, pack our things and eat one last meal before heading in because more than likely it would be go time.

This was not at all what I had pictured. I tried to keep an open mind through pregnancy because I know how quickly things can change but I was so excited to get to naturally go into labor and experience an unmedicated birth but that just wasn’t in the cards for us.

Very quickly after being monitored in triage, I was admitted. I was presented with two different induction options and chose to go with cervidil because I knew out of the two it would be the least likely to give me a 4/20 baby. (You like how I went from wanting a spontaneous birth to attempting to “plan” things with medication, lol 😂). Along with a cervidil I was given blood pressure medication and this is where the fun began…🫠

Not too long after taking my blood pressure medication I began to get one of the worst migraines I’ve ever had in my life. I tried to tough it out thinking “if I can’t handle a migraine how in the world will I push out a baby” but after getting very minimal sleep that night I finally asked for something to help and got some miracle pill that saved the day. Literally I can’t even remember what the medication was called but I remember deliriously telling my nurse to star that medication in my profile for my future births 😂

After finding relief from that migraine, I can tell you that from that point on I absolutely LOVED birth. Through getting Pitocin, to getting my epidural, to only feeling my epidural on one side of my body (lol) I continued to be my joking giggly Abbee self and literally had so much fun! I would like to think everyone else was having fun too because our amazing nurse Mrs Jamie stayed 3 hours after her shift to deliver with us and Dr Haynes stayed after, even though he wasn’t on call, to be with us as well. We even got told we were the party room and got to have Rachel as a student to observe our birth.

After 45 minutes of pushing Ru was born at 5:13 pm that evening. After delivering Ru I remember thinking “that was amazing, I could do this once a week!” 😂 My prayer for a joyful birth was answered and every person that was in that room to deliver Ru I will be forever thankful for.

Nothing compares to witnessing new life…it’s just the most beautiful and miraculous thing 💛
Also I can never get over when a newborn looks directly at my camera🥹😭

Something I always strive to do is to serve mamas in a way that’s more than being there to just take photos… I want to be the one to jump in and be helpful no matter what’s needed and I also always want to be a joy filled calming presence for them. This is one of the most intimate and important moments in life and your birth team truly makes a difference🤍
