🐾 Our Community Cat Food Pantry Needs Help 🐾

Right now, the food pantry that supports our feral cat colonies is running very low. With 273 little lives counting on us every single day, a bare pantry is a very stressful sight.

One of those lives is Melvin, whose mama is a feral resident at a colony we TNR’d last year. Because of this village, cats like Melvin get a chance at a safer, healthier future. 🐈‍⬛🩷

They say there is a first time for everything .. well the one I had today can be the first and LAST!!!
I was delivering new intakes to a new foster in Cottage Grove (welcome to the team Scott 😉) and as I got out of the truck, I must’ve hit the lock button, because I quickly realized as I attempted to open the back door, it was locked and the kittens were in the backseat! 😮
Scott suggested trying the police department, good idea! So I did. Unfortunately, due to policy they are not allowed to help with that kind of situation, they recommended calling Taylor’s towing. When the gentleman answered the phone at Taylor’s, I explained that I was a rescue and was delivering kitten to Foster and had locked them in the truck. He said what address are you at, I told him the address and he said we will be right there! and they absolutely were! A very nice young man named Will showed up and within five minutes had the door open and the kittens out! ♥️ So so very thankful and impressed with the rapid response and skills to get the door open so fast and not a scratch on the truck!!

THEN .. this kind young man made a statement that just melted my heart .. “you will not receive a bill for this” .. “our company believes pets are like family just like children, and when either one is in a locked hot car, they get our help because it’s the right thing to do”.

On Monday I held her tenderly as I helped her over the Rainbow Bridge, she was with me 10 yrs and 10 days. It was something I had always hoped for, to touch and hold her, but something she didn’t want and I respected that. She lived with us, we cared for her, she did as she pleased each day, had friendships with the other cats, especially Cielia and the dogs too - humans co-existed. She lived her life her way and that was ok.
She began having seizures last week that grew in frequency daily, on Monday I took her to Dr. Brian at East Lane Veterinary Hospital she had a large mass/tumor and it was time to say good bye. Maybe I couldn’t hold, pet or cuddle her but I loved her with my whole heart and I know she knew that from all the ways she did allow me into her world. My girl Nugget, your presence is missed, it was an honor to be your person. 🌈 ♥️🐾🐈‍⬛
